About the event

The workshops will run from 9am to 4pm in Breadalbane Community Campus, Aberfeldy on Saturday 16th November.


On Saturday night, from 6.30pm in Aberfedy Town Hall there will be a family ceilidh open to anyone who wishes to ceilidh dance the night away. Fèis participants will gain free entry to the ceilidh, parents/carers and extra attendees will be required to purchase their own tickets here. Please note: children must be accompanied by an adult to the ceilidh. 


And on Sunday (19th) morning, we will be hosting an informal jam session in The Birks Cinema from 11am. More details here!


You can choose from the following workshops on Saturday:


 

Fèis Mhòr | Big Fèis (P4 - S6)

Young people can choose different instruments and levels and will attend 2 choices during the day - choice 1 in the morning and choice 2 in the afternoon. Instruments will be supplied if required. Classes on offer are:

  • Fidheall | Fiddle (beginner & intermediate)

  • Bocsa-ciùil | Accordion (beginner & intermediate)

  • Faram | Percussion (beginner & intermediate)

  • Giotàr | Guitar (beginner & intermediate)

  • Fideag | Whistle (beginner & intermediate)

  • Clàrsach | Clarsach (beginner & intermediate)

  • Còmhlan-ciùil | Band (for intermediate & advanced players only*)

  • Dannsa-ceum | Step-dance (beginner & intermediate)

  • Òrain Gàidhlig | Gaelic Song (beginner & intermediate)

  • Iomain | Shinty  (beginner & intermediate)

  • Cuairt sa Choille | Gaelic Nature Walk (beginner & intermediate) - please sign up for the nature walk with a separate ticket - children must be accompanied by an adult (Fèis participant's cost is included in Fèis price, adults are £5/session)


You are required to pick two back up options in case of timetable clashes and class sizes. We will endeavour to put participants in their first choices wherever possible.


Cosg | Cost (Ticket includes free entry to the Family Ceilidh on Saturday night):

  • £15 First Child

  • £10 Second Child

  • £5 for subsequent Children


Clàr-ama | Timetable:

  • Registration from 9am

  • Welcome & Fèis Song - 9.30 - 10

  • Choice 1 - 10.00 - 11.00

  • Choice 1 - 11.15 - 12.15

  • Lunch - participants will require a packed lunch

  • Choice 2 - 13.15 - 14.15

  • Choice 2 - 14.30 - 15.30

  • Informal Performance - 15.30 - 16.00 - parents/carers are encouraged to come and watch.


To ensure we place participants in ability-appropriate classes please indicate their level of experience in each subject:


  • Beginner: you have never tried this before and would like to learn the basics

  • Intermediate: you have a good grasp of the basics and can play/accompany/sing a few pieces at a steady pace


*Participants choosing band may choose it for all choices and spend the day learning about arrangements and working as a band with Craig. Participants must be an intermediate or advanced player on any instrument to be in this workshop. It is recommended for S1+. Participants will need their own instrument to take part in band.


 

Fèis Bheag | Wee Fèis (P1 - P3)

Fèis Bheag or ‘Wee Fèis’ offers a variety of music and arts activities for younger primary school pupils. Participants will experience different elements of our main Fèis event, giving them a fun and engaging taste of traditional music, song dance and art. Sessions will be run by Carrie Forbes and Sandra MacKay in the morning and afternoon.


Cosg | Cost (Ticket includes free entry to the Family Ceilidh on Saturday night)

  • £5 per child per session


Clàr-ama | Timetable:

  • Session 1 - 10.00 - 12.15

  • Session 2 - 13.15 - 15.30

Participants staying for both sessions will require a packed lunch


 

Cròileagan | Playgroup (0-5) (All children to be accompanied by a parent/carer)

A fun informal session or music and song for our youngest particiants. Games, arts & crafts, music, stories, rhymes and more! Why not join in the fun, sessions run by staff from Cròileagan Obar Pheallaidh.

All of our tutors are experienced, professional musicians, skilled in working with young people. We also have a pool of supervisors and volunteers who help our events run smoothly. Young people are supervised at all times and we work in accordance with Child Protection and Health & Safety Guidelines. Our staff are all members of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme administered by Disclosure Scotland.

We are committed to making traditional music accessible to all, to eliminate barriers to participation. We have a number of concessionary places available to participants who require support and may also be able to offer help towards transport costs . If you would like to talk in confidence about this or support for learners with disabilities or specific access requirements for your child, please contact us or let us know in the booking form.
