A fun weekend of musical and Gaelic activities in Aberfeldy for the whole family!

Main Fèis Day

Disthairne 22 An t-Samhain | Saturday 22 November

Breadalbane Community Campus, Aberfeldy

Fèis Mhòr | Big Fèis:

Aoisean P4 - S6 | Ages P4 - S6

Workshops in traditional instruments, song and dance. Participants choose from two of the below options:

Fidheall | Fiddle (beginner & intermediate)
Giotàr | Guitar (beginner & intermediate)
Bogsa-ciùil | Accordion (beginner & intermediate)
Faram | Percussion (beginner & intermediate)
Clàrsach | Harp (beginner & intermediate)
Fìdeag | Whistle (beginner & intermediate)
Còmhlan-ciùil | Band (experienced players only, all instruments welcome). Participants can choose to attend Band all day
Dannsa ceum | Step-dance (beginner)
Iomain | Shinty (beginner)
Cuairt na h-Aibhne | Walk the Gaelic Landscape (Please note: children must be accompanied by an adult - adults must buy a ticket here)

Instruments will be supplied if required.

Ìrean | Levels:

Beginner: you have never tried this before and would like to learn the basics
Intermediate: you have a good grasp of the basics and can play/accompany/sing a few pieces at a steady pace

Registration from 9am
Welcome & Fèis Song - 9.30am - 10am
Choice 1 - 10am - 12.15pm (incl. short break)
Lunch - 12.15pm - 1.15pm
Choice 2 - 1.15pm - 3.30pm (incl. short break)
Informal Performance - 3.30pm - 4pm

Participants must bring a packed lunch

£20 (first child), £15 (second child), £10 (subsequent children)

Fèis Bheag | Wee Fèis:

Aoisean P1 - P3 | Ages P1 - P3

Fèis Bheag or ‘Wee Fèis’ offers a variety of music and arts activities for younger primary school pupils. Participants will experience different elements of our main Fèis event, giving them a fun and engaging taste of traditional music, song, dance and art. Run by Carrie Forbes and Sandra MacKay.

Clàr-ama | Timetable:

Morning Session - 10am - 12.15pm
Lunch - 12.15pm - 1.15pm
Afternoon Session - 1.15pm - 3.30pm
Informal Performance - 3.30pm - 4pm

(participants staying for full day must bring a packed lunch)

£10 for half day or £15 for full day

Ticket includes free entry to the Family Ceilidh on Saturday night

Cròileagan | Playgroup

Aoisean 0 - 5 | Ages 0 - 5 (All children to be accompanied by a parent/carer)

A fun, informal session for our youngest participants. Games, music, stories, rhymes, arts, crafts and more! Why not join the fun sessions run by staff from Cròileagan Obar Pheallaidh.

Inbheach | Adults:

Cuairt na h-Aibhne le Calum | Walk the Gaelic Landscape with Calum

Join BBC's Calum Maclean on for a walk along the River Tay and learn about the Gaelic landscape, mythology, songs and stories of the area!

The morning session will be for Gaelic beginners (10am to 12pm) and the afternoon session will be for intermediate/advanced Gaelic speakers (1.30pm to 3.30pm).

Make sure you bring good boots, waterproofs, warm clothes and a bottle of water. Please note: this walk will be on rough paths and include some steep climbs. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Cothrom Comhraidh | Gaelic Cafe

Join us for a free Gaelic Café in Breadalbane Community Campus, open to anyone wanting to practise or learn a bit of Gaelic - pop along any time between 10.30am and 3pm for strùpag (a cuppa) and cabadaich (a blether). No registration required.

Sunday Session

Seisean Didòmhnaich | Sunday Session

The Birks Cinema, Aberfeldy

Didòmhnaich 23 An t-Samhain | Sunday 23 November

11am to 1pm

An-asgaidh | Free entry

Led by the Fèis Thatha tutors, the Sunday Session offers the chance to play, learn and share traditional music together in a relaxed, fun setting. Come along with your instrument, have a coffee and join in with the tunes.

The session is free to attend and open to all ages, abilities and instruments. No registration required.

You'll find a Dropbox folder of music for tunes that are frequently played at the Sunday Sessions here.

Small print

All of our tutors are experienced, professional musicians, skilled in working with young people. We also have a pool of supervisors and volunteers who help our events run smoothly. Young people are supervised at all times and we work in accordance with Child Protection and Health & Safety Guidelines. Our staff are all members of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme administered by Disclosure Scotland.

We are committed to making traditional music accessible to all to eliminate barriers for participation. We have a number of concessionary places available to participants who require support and may also be able to offer help towards transport costs . If you would like to talk in confidence about support for learners with disabilities or specific access requirements for your child, please contact us or let us know in the booking form.
